New Classification Team Requirements


Smallmouth Division



  • 4 Anglers minimum
  • 7th-12th Grades (same school and feeder schools)
  • 2 Boat Captains with boat minimum
  • 1 Coach/Advisor (may serve as a boat captain as well)
  • 2.0 GPA
  • ASABFA Team of the Year points will be awarded based on your top two boats at ASABFA Classic Qualifiers
  • Teams may bring maximum of four boats for each of the four ASABFA Classic Qualifiers. 

 

New Classification Team Requirements


 Largemouth Division



  • 6 Anglers minimum
  • 7th-12th Grades (same school and feeder schools)
  • 3 Boat Captains with boat minimum
  • 1 Coach/Advisor (may serve as a boat captain as well)
  • 2.0 GPA
  • ASABFA Team of the Year points will be awarded based on your top three boats at ASABFA Classic Qualifiers
  • Teams may bring all team boats for each of the four ASABFA Classic Qualifiers.


Team Requirements

  • Each angler must fish at least ONE district tournament in the fall. (New teams exempt from this rule)
  • Homeschoolers must fish with the public school for which they are zoned. Additional rules apply to private schools. Please contact Josh Williams with home school questions. Cell (334)300-4437
  • No limit to number of boats per fall district tournaments – everyone is encouraged to fish.
  • Each district will have a minimum of two fall tournaments.
  • ASABFA Classic Qualifying Tournaments will begin in February and run through April.
  • ASABFA Classic is held in May.
  • ASABFA will provide a list of seven lakes and dates of the ASABFA Classic Qualifying tournaments. Each team will rank their ASABFA tournament lakes based on their preference. (ASABFA will assign teams four lakes based on availability and team preference.)
  • All teams must fish 3 out of 4 ASABFA assigned lakes to possibly qualify for the ASABFA Classic Tournament. (If team fishes all 4, lowest score will be dropped.)
  • Your team must have a minimum of six events for the school year (tournaments, practice tournaments, community service, conservation activities).
  • Monthly team meetings held throughout the school year. 

Terminology 

  • Team: Anyone from your group that is a member of the ASABFA. A minimum of six student anglers and three boat captains.
  • Individual Boat: A boat captain and 2 anglers, which are all members of the ASABFA.
  • Angler: 6-12 grade student that is a member of ASABFA.
  • Boat Captain: Must be graduated from high school or 21 years of age; must be insured on the boat they are operating in the tournament and an ASABFA member.
  • Observer: Must be a member of the ASABFA. Only one observer may be used per tournament. Their role is to observe during the tournaments and may not fish.
  • Boat/Vessel: 16 feet in length, working live well, engine kill switch, working lights, min of 40 to max of manufactor recomended horsepower (see tournament rules).
  • ASABFA State Champion: The team that accumulates the most points for the year on the ASABFA Classic and the ASABFA Classic Qualifiers.
  • ASABFA Classic Team Champions: Awarded to the top team in the ASABFA Classic two day tournament.
  • ASABFA Classic 1st Place Boat: Awarded to the top individual boat in the ASABFA Classic two day tournament.
